hello

Breaking In Your Shoes.

If my shoes aren’t comfy I am miserable! That’s why it is so important to buy the right shoes and to break them in. I was at a party Saturday night with some very uncomfy shoes on and every time I took a step I went ouch, ouch, ouch, that is not something you would photographed.

So here are some top tips to breaking in your shoes –

  1. Wear them around the house
  2. Wear them for little periods of time but often
  3. If you work at a desk in an office take them with you, then you can wear them while you are sat down.
  4. Wear socks with them, this will help stretch them and prevent any blisters (hopefully)

Hopefully with these tips you’ll be dancing the night away in your comfy shoes.

We Are Anti-Static.

What is static and why do we get it in our clothes? Static is caused when the fibers rub together. Basically the fibers stick to each other and when you have a beautiful flowing dress that is not the look you want to go for.

So how do you remove static from your dress?

  1. You can actually buy anti-static spray to spray under your outfit. (some people also use hairspray)
  2. Rub the inside of your dress with your tights before you put them on.
  3. Use a wire hanger and move it across your clothes to transfer the static to the hanger and not your dress.

On your daughter or son’s wedding day you want to be ecstatic, not full of static.

The Polished Look

Today we are going to be discussing nails and what to go for. If in doubt go nude, luckily this year nude nails are trending.

According to Cosmopolitan magazine the top nail trend is iridescent chrome nails, basically a shiny nude nail that shimmers in the light giving  a different colour to the nail varnish. Number 4 was a sheer blush and number 5 was a strawberry glazed effect.

One of the good thing about nude nails if they get chipped it is not as obvious as if you had a colour nail varnish on. On the day the last thing you want to worry about is a chipped nail.

Don’t Forget To Accessorize.

So you have found the dress, now is the time to accessorize. When you purchase your dress you might buy the hat to match, even a pair of shoes and bag, is that it then? Done………Nope, what about jewelry.

If you come in to see us to find your outfit you might notice towards the end of the appointment, when you think you have found your dress and we have teamed you with the hat and shoes etc we will put a necklace on just to finish the look and that is what jewelry does, it gives you that polished finished look.

However you can over accessorize, for example if you buy a beautiful beaded and sequin dress with quite a high neckline I wouldn’t then go and put a big diamante necklace on, you don’t need it. Instead I would look for some diamante drop earrings and maybe even a bracelet to finish the look.

If your dress has long sleeves and a beautiful v neckline do not worry about bracelets, no one will see them, instead look for a lovely necklace to show off that neckline.

Also go off the colour of your outfit, if your dress is a gold colour I would team it with gold accessories. Never be afraid to ask us what jewelry you should team with your outfit, we are here to help you every step of the way.

Moodboard.

When planning a wedding or anything really a moodboard is always a good tool that people use. A moodbaord is a way of combining images, material and pieces of texts to give your wedding a clear style.

For example you are planning a Christmas wedding, so on your mood board you might have Christmas trees, the colours red and green, fur wraps, Christmas dinner and Christmas Pudding, holly and mistletoe. This can show anyone the sort of concept you want for your wedding.

So why not do the same for your outfit? Ask the Bride and Groom if they have a mood board? Go off on the ideas they have when doing your own. As you can see from this Mother’s moodboard on our feature image. She has used colours that she wants, a style off dress, hairstyle and even thought about what accessories and next to the moodboard, a picture of what she ended up looking like. Plus a moodbaord is something special you can keep afterwards to remember the day.

D.Exterior

D.Exterior has arrived and WOW it is beautiful and perfect for a wedding abroad. D.Exterior is an Italian brand and mainly focuses on knitwear but not the knitwear you would think. The fabric is beautifully light and floaty.

This season we are seeing a lot of gold and pink tones with a little bit of added sparkle. The lovely thing about these dresses you will wear them again and again. Many members of staff have a D.Exterior outfit and absolutely love it.

We also have a jumpsuit option and some trousers and tops from this brand if a dress isn’t what you are wanting. Please come in and ask to see our D.Exterior collection, you wont be disappointed.

Hats.

Hats were very much part of the traditional mother of the bride or groom outfit however that it not necessarily the case now. I got married recently and neither my Mum or Mother in Law wore a hat or fascinator.

There are so many different options now when it comes to head pieces. Hats, fascinators, headbands etc, there is something for everyone.

Regarding hat sizes the rule tends to be that the rim of your hat is no bigger than your shoulders.

Your hat colour should compliment the colour of your dress. Condici, a make that we have here at Anne Furbank are very good at having a hat to go with an outfit. As you can see from our feature image.

Tears Of Joy.

On the big day one of the last things you want to be worrying about is your mascara running? Nobody wants panda eyes for the photos and that’s why it is so important to use the correct make up.

Waterproof mascara is a must and that is because it contains dimethicone copolyol whic is a type of silicon that doesn’t react with water. Therefore staying where you want it to even if you shed a tear.

The only thing is to be aware of it is harder to remove at the end of the day so after using your make up remover make sure you cleanse as well.

Waterproof mascara’s come in different price points from £6-£25 so thre is one out there for everyone.

Making Your Make Up Last.

We all want our make up to look as good as it does when its first been applied, but realistically does it still look the same at the end of the day?

I have a few tips to help your make up last the day. The first one is to know your skin, make sure you are using the right products. For example if you have dry skin make sure you use a rich moisturiser. If you have oily skin do not use an oil based product.

Secondly to use a primer, a primer should be applied before your foundation. The primer acts as a good base for the rest of your make up. Do not forget to use an eye primer as well before you do your eyeshadow.

Once you have used your foundation then add your powder. A powder will give you a finished matte look  and will also dry the foundation to stop it looking oily.

Lastly finish with a setting spray to keep your make up in place.

Keep Hydrated.

We try to advise our customers on outfits, for example the right colour, shape, style for you but we also try to give tips to help you throughout the day.

One really important tip is to keep hydrated. Do not forget to drink water throughout the day, we all know how important it is to stay hydrated so we need to make sure we make the time to have a drink. If you become dehydrated you might start to feel unwell and nobody wants that.

Normally after the ceremony drinks are offered, if you are planning a wedding why not add some jugs of water to your choices? Especially if it is a lovely hot summers day.

On the table jugs or bottles of water are normally provided. If not you can now buy lovely bottles and even get them personalised to keep some water in. Also if you are drinking water and spill it it is less likely to make a mess on your dress. Plus drinking water alongside alcohol can prevent a hang over (sometimes) or reduce the effects. And not to mention the lovely effects water has on our skin.
